Spider Veins Can Be Removed

Q:  I have a lot of spider veins on both of my legs and have had them for a long time (even before my pregnancies). Could these be due to some kind of liver disease? If not, I’ve heard about a laser technique that is used to remove them. Is that safe?

A:  In general and in the absence of other symptoms, these are benign lesions. In women, they are most commonly found on the legs, although they can appear elsewhere. These can be safely removed via laser techniques, cautery, and in some situations – saline injections. I would suggest that you see a dermatologist keeping in mind that as these are cosmetic, your insurance may not pay for their removal.
