Bulimia Literature

Q:  I am interested in reading material for families of bulimic young women. I have a family member who is courageously battling this horrifying disease. Please advise me of the most recent articles and agencies who are willing to assist.

A:  Bulimia has its peak onset in college-age women and 3-5% of them are affected. Because they feel such enormous shame, the problem is often hidden and they have symptoms an average of 5 years before seeking treatment. Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention, Inc., provides information, resource materials, book lists and referrals. Their Web site is at www.edap.org and the toll-free telephone number is 800-931-2237.
