Bruised Knees

Q:  My knees always look bruised and dirty, but I have no pain or any other problems with them. I would like to know what causes this condition and if there is anything I can do to make them look better.

A:  Because the knees and elbows bend alot, the skin over those areas is thicker, more wrinkled, and has more pigment per square inch. After traumas or rashes heal, the area may be darker for months or even permanently. It's unlikely that there is a specific disease that can explain your darker knees.

If it really bothers you, you could see a dermatologist or try using a skin bleaching cream on your knees.
